A's one win from North Georgia title game
Bobby Wirsing pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run in leading the Gainesville A's to a 6-5 win over Loganville Sunday in the quarterfinals of the North Georgia American Legion Tournament at Cherokee High School. The A's will take on Rockdale at 2 p.m. Monday at Cherokee High. The winner will move into the title game against Loganville at 5 p.m.

Braves blow another big lead as Phillies rally for win
Pat Burrell hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the fifth inning and the Philadelphia Phillies again rallied past the Atlanta Braves 12-10 on Sunday. Chris Coste, Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth and Jimmy Rollins also went deep for the Phillies, who overcame a 5-0 deficit a day after coming back from a 9-3 hole.

Johnson survives tire debacle at Indianapolis
Jimmie Johnson celebrated his second victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a burnout. Appropriately, one of his tires exploded. Johnson survived horrendous tire troubles that made Sunday's race a caution-filled debacle because the Goodyear product was not durable enough to withstand the lack of downforce on NASCAR's new car and the speeds and surface of Indy.

A's qualify for state tourney, set sights on North Ga. title
The last two seasons the Gainesville A's American Legion baseball team lost in the second round only to come out of the loser's bracket to win the North Georgia title each time. The 2008 A's are following their own script for success after beating Conyers 8-1 Saturday at Cherokee High School to qualify for the upcoming state tournament.

What a relief - Gossage a Hall of Famer at last
As a kid, Rich Gossage's dreams never matched those of his father. "My dad always said, 'You're going to play in the big leagues some day,' " Gossage recalled. Gossage did more than just play in the major leagues. He became a dominant relief pitcher in a 22-year career that will receive its finishing touch on Sunday when he is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Kyle Busch sets NASCAR record with Nationwide win
Kyle Busch was frustrated by NASCAR's latest rule change. He took it out on the competition. Busch led all but three laps Saturday night to win the Kroger 200 for Toyota's 15th victory in 22 Nationwide races this season.

Edwards overtakes Leffler to win Nationwide race
Carl Edwards passed Jason Leffler with 48 laps remaining Saturday night and cruised to victory at the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 on Saturday night.
