A mother from Peachtree Corners has been charged with malice and felony murder after her child was found dead with stab wounds Thursday morning as officials responded to a fire at the apartment the two lived in.
According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, A'zaria Shante Burton, 23, was arrested Friday evening for the death of her child, Jayveon Pruitt, 6. Burton was charged with malice murder, felony murder, first-degree arson, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, possession of a knife during the commission of certain crimes and cruelty to children first degree.
Burton is being held in the Gwinnett County Jail with no bond.
Her arrest comes after Gwinnett County Police and fire officials responded Thursday morning to an apartment fire at 4900 Springs Lane in Peachtree Corners. Officials found Pruitt dead inside the unit with multiple stab wounds. Pruitt was the only one inside the apartment at the time.
