The Class AA No. 1-ranked East Hall boys basketball team put together one of its famous runs in the first quarter and Dawson County never recovered in the Region 8-AA Tournament Thursday night.

The Flowery Branch boys basketball team forced its own tempo on the Johnson Knights and that proved to be the deciding factor in the Falcons win over the defending region champs in the Region 7-AAA Tournament semi-finals.

In the Region 7-AAA Tournament the Johnson girls basketball team defeated North Hall to advance to the region championship game.

It had a little bit of everything. Excellent defense, clutch shooting, a dozen lead changes, and a packed Jefferson gym. But in the end, Jefferson had Duran Rakestraw and Lakeview Academy had no answer.

"Devastating" is how Chestatee coach Russ Triaga described it. "Jubilation" is how Flowery Branch coach Mike Adcock put it following his team's thrilling 64-60 win over Chestatee Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Region 7-AAA

North Hall teammates Terry Nash and Brandon Garcia shared a special day Thursday signing scholarships to play college baseball.
