Former Hall County Commissioner Bobby Banks plans to run for the state House seat being vacated by James Mills.

Qualifying will begin Oct. 3 for three northeast Georgia state legislative seats which are being vacated by state Senator Jim Butterworth of Clarkesville, state Representative Rick Austin of Habersham County, and state Rep. James Mills of Gainesville.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced Thursday that he has appointed state Rep. James Mills (R-Gainesville) to the State Board of Pardons and Paroles, effective Jan. 1. Mills will succeed Gale Buckner, whose term ends Dec. 31.

Another candidate for Hall County Sheriff has come forward.

Former State Senator Lee Hawkins announced his candidacy for the Georgia House of Representatives District 27 seat Friday.

Only one newcomer submitted paperwork this week to qualify for the Gainesville City elections on Nov. 8.

A petition seeking the recall of Hall County Commissioner Craig Lutz has been withdrawn but Lutz doesn't believe the campaign to have him removed from office is over.

The list of candidates for the November Gainesville city elections continues to grow.
