Mary Catherine 'Cathy' Gilstrap

Obituary Date: Saturday, March 21, 2020

Mrs. Mary Catherine “Cathy” Gilstrap, age 62, of Dahlonega entered into rest March 21, 2020.

Mrs. Gilstrap was born on August 04, 1957 in Fort Port, LA but spent most of her life in Dahlonega, GA.  She was the daughter of the late Mr. Ray Chandler and the late Mrs. Jimmie Ann Chandler.

Mrs. Gilstrap’s favorite thing in life was to spend time with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren who loved her more than words could ever say.

“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. ... 26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. 30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.”  Proverbs 31:10-11, 26-31

Survivors include her beloved husband and best friend of 40 years, Gerald Gilstrap; sons and daughters-in-law Jaime and Melanie Gilstrap, and Johnny and Ericka Gilstrap; son Justin Gilstrap; Melissa Marchbanks Gilstrap; grandchildren Kerrie Gilstrap, John David Gilstrap, Hunter Gilstrap, Justin Gilstrap, Katherine Gilstrap, Mason Aguilar, and Matthew Aguilar; brother and sister-in-law Lee and Sherry Benefield; sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Toby Sherrell; several nieces and nephews; and an honorary family member, Doug Gilstrap.

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis in our country, a private graveside service will be held at Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Dennis Fortner officiating.  The service can be viewed on andersonunderwood.com at Mrs. Gilstrap's obituary page Thursday evening.
