Rachael Sanders

Dahlonega Funeral Home announces that Rachael Sanders, age 99, passed away February 18th, 2020.

She was born  December 29th, 1920 in Nashua, New Hampshire to the late Edward Duprey and Rose (Archambault) Duprey. She grew up in Pepperell, Massachusetts but as an adult she lived in Concord, NH; New York CIty, NY; Atlanta, GA; and then moved to Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, Ga in 2001.

As a resident at Lanier Village Estates she was involved in the Library Committee, Path-To-The-Lake Committee, Bible Study, and a volunteer at WillowBrook Court.

She was a Registered Surgical Nurse having worked at Polyclinic Hospital in New York City, NY; Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga; and Decatur Hospital, in Decatur, GA.

She was a member of the National Association of Operating Room Nurses; Karnats (Shrine Auxiliary of Arab Guard), and the Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed Dancing, Growing flowers, sailing, traveling, and bird watching.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thurman “TB” Sanders, her parents, and her 3 siblings; Lester Duprey, Lorraine Duprey Higgins, and Jean Duprey Palmer.

She is survived by nieces and nephews; Paul Duprey(Jean), Pamela Duprey DeGemmis (Alfred), Mimi Duprey Granheim (Hans), Susan Palmer West (Paul), Terrance HIggins, Caroline Sanders Unruh, James Sanders (Vicki), and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Ms. Sanders will be held on May 9th, 2020 at 11am at Lanier Village Estates Chapel. Father Tim of St. Michaels Catholic church will be officiating.

Care and trust is placed in the Dahlonega Funeral Home.
