Fred Dennis Chamblee

Obituary Date: Saturday, February 15, 2020

Fred Dennis Chamblee, 72, of the Persimmon Community went to be with his LORD and Savior February 15, 2020 with family members by his side.  He was born December 15, 1947 at Clayton’s Maternity Home.  His parents were the late Fred Verdo “Lit” Chamblee and Zettie Lovell Chamblee.

He was a graduate of Rabun County High School Class of 1966 and North Georgia Technical School in 1968. He served in the US Army with Battery C, 94th Artillery Division Army Security Agency while stationed at the Germany Command during the Vietnam Era. He returned home to Rabun County in 1970 and worked at Rabun Metal Products before beginning his career with the state Department of Transportation where he retired in 2005 as a Surveyor Party Chief.  In 1979, he married Rosalyn Ethel Nichols. His daughter Jill Bray and her husband Chuck Bray live in the Persimmon Community and are parents to his three grandchildren, Jase Dennis Bray, Grady Willis Bray, and Lilly Carlene Bray.  His son Matthew Judson Chamblee and his wife Nikki Burau Chamblee currently reside in Monument, Colorado.  Dennis was preceded in death by one son Clifford Dennis Chamblee.

Dennis was very family oriented and spent the better part of his free time with his family. He was a lifetime church member holding various positions making sure his family attended regularly. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and an excellent marksman. 

Being civic minded, Dennis was a founding member of the Tallulah-Persimmon Volunteer Fire Department where he faithfully served for over 40 years and answered “the call” many, many times.  He also served the community by being Chairman of the Board of the Persimmon Community Club.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday 18, 2020 at the Beck Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Persimmon Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Richard Wright. He will be laid to rest at Persimmon Baptist Church Cemetery and receive full fireman honors.

In lieu of flowers donations should be made in Dennis’s Memory to the Tallulah-Persimmon Volunteer Fire Department 344 Persimmon Road Clayton, GA 30525 or the Persimmon Community Club.
