Ruth “Ruthie” Sylthe

Obituary Date: Monday, February 3, 2020

Ruth “Ruthie” Sylthe passed away due to complications from a fall on Christmas Eve at MeSun Hospice surrounded by her family January 16, 2020 at the age of 94.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ruth Peterson and son-in-law Mitch Kueffer.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Nels Sylthe of 72 years. They were married in Chicago in 1948. Left to cherish her memory is her son Tom Sylthe and wife Carol of Elgin, Illinois, and daughter Karen Kueffer of Braselton Georgia, grandchildren Tracy Cooney and husband Robert of Auburn, Georgia, Michelle Ussery and husband Drayson of Braselton, Georgia,  Andy Sylthe and partner Patty, Joe and Kara Sylthe Of Illinois and great-grandchildren, Jason and Megan Cooney, Aidan and Collin Ussery and Jackson and Jordan Sylthe.

Ruth was born in Detroit Michigan in 1926 but lived most of her life in the Chicagoland area. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Chicago. During High School she was an avid dancer and was in the Drum and Bugle Corp where she met her future husband, Nels. After High School she became a Navy wife during WWII and resided in San Diego, California. They returned to Chicago after the service. She was mainly a full time wife and mom with periodic part-time jobs.

Ruth was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved her family and expressed shortly before her passing that she felt very blessed.

Ruth enjoyed reading, playing cards, painting, arts and crafts, ladies clubs and being with family and friends. One of the things she enjoyed the most was cheering on her great-grandchildren at their sports events and concerts!

Ruth volunteered many hours over a 16 year period at Gwinnett Medical in Lawrenceville.

She was also a full member of the Eastern Star for 50 plus years.

A Memorial service will be held, on February 8th, to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church, 1450 Pine Rd., Dacula, Ga. with Rev. Jason Mincey officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00P.M. at the church prior to the service. The service will begin at 2:00pm. A reception will follow immediately at the church.
