Thomas John Bobowski

Obituary Date: Wednesday, January 29, 2020

Every day is a holiday and January 29 will forever be Tom Day or Geeps Day, as is he is fondly known by his grandbabies. Thomas John Bobowski, age 61, passed away while surrounded by loved ones and family on January 29, 2020  in Cumming, Georgia.

Tom was born in Evergreen Park, IL to Edward Thomas Bobowski and Jean Ann Such on September 19, 1958. Tom was Polish through and through and from a young age he had his kids dancing the polka and eating pierogies. He went to high school at Quigley Preparatory Seminary South.  It was here we heard the infamous tales of how he walked six miles, uphill, barefoot in the snow to school. He graduated from Loyola University Chicago (on the five year plan) with a degree in Public Policy Analysis. It was at Loyola where he met the love of his life standing in line across the yard at Orientation. Tom married Susan Marie Hegg on May 22, 1982 in Kankakee, IL.  The courthouse where they obtained their marriage license was forever on the ‘Tom’s holiday tour of Kankakee’.

He served in the Army and is a decorated veteran First Lieutenant.  After an honorable medical discharge from the Army, Tom worked as a financial advisor for Global Preferred Holdings, Chubb, Prudential and eventually for himself at BFG Investment Services. Always a lifelong learner and self-starter, Tom even founded a technology company in the months leading up to his death and would pitch his services to his nurses, doctors and other caretakers.

Tom is preceded in death by his mother Jean Ann Such, father Edward Thomas Bobowski, brother Kenneth Edward Bobowski and mother in law Joan Elizabeth Hegg.

Tom is survived by his wife Sue and children Christina and her husband Ethan, Jennifer and her husband Dustin, Kathryn and her husband Ben, and Zachary, otherwise known as Tusi, Daughter #1, Daughter #2, Daughter #3 and Son #1.  He is also survived by his second great loves - his grandbabies Presley, Imogen, Ellinor, Edith and Holden. Tom loved being a grandpa more than anything and took his role as “Geeps” very seriously. He held babies, snuck treats, and attended first recitals with pride. If he loved you, you got a song and a nickname and Peanut, MoMo, ChaCha, EE and HThomas will miss him and his dances dearly.

Visitation followed by mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday February 6th, 2020 at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Cumming, GA.  A processional will follow to Georgia National Cemetery for the burial with full military honors.

Tom’s most favorite thing was to gather around a table with friends and family, a homemade meal and good drinks. In lieu of donations or flowers, Tom would want you to pull up to the table with your family and share fun memories and love with each other.
