Irene Young York

Mrs. Irene Young York, age 87 of W. Currahee Street, Toccoa went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

A daughter of the late Clyde and Mamie Sheriff Young, she was born December 31, 1932 in Martin, Georgia having lived all her life in Stephens County.  She was a devoted wife and mother and was of the Baptist faith.  She loved to work in her flowers and rose gardens and loved her dog, Chico. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Howard York in 2012 and by three sisters, Joyce Thomas, Helen Craig and Nan McCurry.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Gloria York of Toccoa; grandchildren, Richard and Shannon York of Blue Ridge and Renee York of Cornelia; five great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Cleamon and Janice Young of St. Augustine, Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Gayzell and Jerry Farmer of Sarasota, Florida; brother-in-law, Talmadge Craig; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 30, 2020, 4 O’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Brandon Crunkleton and The Reverend Dr. Tommy Childress officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Randy Collins, Mark McCurry, Brian Dooley, Ted Crunkleton, Steve York, Roger York, Tim York and Boyd Kelley.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, 2 p.m. until the service time at 4 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Irene Young York.
