Charles E. Gibbs, 95, of the Free Home Community passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Charles was the oldest original resident of Free Home. One of seven brothers and one sister, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving in North Africa in World War II under General George H. Patton. Charles was an avid farmer and gardener. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeri C. Gibbs, a granddaughter, Mallory Lane Roach, and a grandson, David Cranford.
Survivors include his children, Don (Trisha) Gibbs of Demorest, Denise Gibbs (Curtis) Roach of Alpharetta, Dwayne Gibbs of Cumming, Daryle Gibbs of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Chris Gibbs, Kelsey Roach, Lance Cpl. Danielle Gibbs (U.S.M.C.); brothers, Maurice (Helen) Gibbs of Oxford, GA, Clarence (Jeanine) Gibbs of Loganville; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Waddell and Rev. Matthew Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
