Rita Marie (Olszewski) Strycula 89, of Rome, Georgia passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 surrounded by her family.
Rita enjoyed spending time with her beloved family, and many friends, taking local one day trips and weekend getaways and going on annual travel trips to visit with her cousins Gail and Barbara, sister Lorraine, and the many relatives in her hometown of Chicago.
Although she had her own ways of meticulously doing things, she still had a sense of wonderment to learn or try something new. Having never met a stranger, along with a gift of gab, kept her young at heart. She had a flair for fashion sense and kept up with the latest trends especially with jewelry. She loved baking and always made her favorite cookies and cakes for special family occasions, celebrations and holidays.
She had many, many pets and animal friends throughout her life and they lovingly enjoyed each other’s company. She was also an avid bowler for quite some time maintaining a league average of 185 and a high game score of 260.
She and her husband Chester opened a Jerry Lewis Cinema in the early 70’s which was later renamed the Lilburn-Tucker Cinema when the franchise folded a few years later. After her husband passed away, she continued to successfully operate the single screen cinema for quite a few years until it closed in the 1980’s to become a retail establishment. She then later retired from Macy’s after many years of service.
Rita lived her life with dignity and grace. She had a strong faith and remained a practicing member of the Catholic Church her entire life.
Rita is predeceased in death by her beloved husband Chester Strycula, and her daughter Valerie Doss.
Rita is survived by her daughter; Deborah Strycula of Dunwoody, GA.
Rita also leaves behind 1 grandchild; Christie, and 4 great grandchildren; Jesse, Christina, Tyler, and Logan.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 from 11:00am until 12:15pm and graveside services with interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery in Sandy Springs, GA. at 1:30pm
