Mr. John ("Gus") Lennon Evans was born February 17, 1946 in Mobile, AL and died in Dahlonega, GA on January 17, 2020 where he had lived since 1980. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Dorothy Evans, his previous wife of 19 years, Kate Evans, and brother Walter Evans.
He is survived by his wife Wendy Evans; his siblings Drew (Marilyn) Evans, Will (Dona) Evans, and Tara (Ray) Evans; his wife's siblings Kathy (Doug) Martin, John M. Hunt, Pete Johnson, and Kelly Johnson; his children John Lennon (Heather) Evans, Jr., Becky (Zach) Singleton, and Joshua (Brooke) Evans; and his grandchildren Joseph Evans, Jamie Evans, Gracie Singleton, Vivian Singleton, Sophia Singleton, Charlotte Singleton, Georgiana Singleton, Louisa Singleton, and Emelia Evans.
John was raised in Daytona Beach, FL and graduated from Mainland High School. John was trained and worked for Eastern Airlines as a FAA certified aircraft mechanic for 23 years, moving him from Florida to Georgia until Eastern closed their operations. After that Northwest Airlines employed John where he worked until 2002 when Northwest closed their aircraft maintenance base in Atlanta, GA. John finished up his aircraft maintenance career at Lockheed in Marrietta, GA.
John was a skilled woodworker and known for his meticulous handiwork. He could build or fix anything. John loved fishing, hunting, hiking the Appalachian Trail, dogs (actually all creatures), trees, plants, camp fires, helping others, but most of all he loved his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2020.
