Hoyt Earl Robinson

Obituary Date: Saturday, January 11, 2020

Hoyt Earl Robinson, 89, of Dahlonega, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2020 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.  He was surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Robinson is survived by his children Tim and Robin Milford, Scott and Margaret Hallam, Judi Flynt, and Walter and Patty Grindle of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Ferris Gilreath, Keene and Jennifer Flynt, John and Hillyer Peirce, David and Tara Nichols, Austin Grindle, Coleman Grindle, Alison Flynt, Ryan and Renae Milford, and Justin and Cheyenne Milford; great-grandchildren, Abel Gilreath, Ellie Flynt, Easton Flynt, Michael Nichols, Luke Nichols, Mary Anne Nichols, Flynt Greene, Lawson Greene, Phoenix Milford, Marley Milford, and Jayme Milford; and numerous nephews and nieces. 

Mr. Robinson is preceded in death by his wife Mary Louise Floyd Robinson of Dahlonega, parents H.C. “Hokey” Robinson and Mattie Mae White Robinson of Gainesville, and son-in-law Ted Flynt of Dahlonega.

Mr. Robinson was born December 4, 1930 in Gainesville, Georgia.  He grew up in the Sardis community, working with animals on his family’s farm.  He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War where he got to travel the world.  He attended Young Harris College and served on the College’s Board for many years.  Mr. Robinson married Mary Louise Floyd Robinson on July 21, 1956.  She was the love of his life.  They moved to Dahlonega, Georgia and they raised four daughters together.  His children remember him as a kind, strong, and loving father who taught them how to love and support one another and to always put God first.  He was a man of strong faith and values, always giving to others.  He was a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon.  Over the course of his career, Mr. Robinson was a purchasing agent for the state of Georgia, dairy farmer, developer, builder, and business owner.  Mr. Robinson was a leader in the community of Dahlonega.  He served on numerous boards within the Lumpkin County area.  He also supported the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home, Sonshine Preschool, Jeremiah’s Place, and Lumpkin County Schools. 

Mr. Robinson loved gardening and sharing the vegetables he grew with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and picking blueberries with them on long, hot summer days.  He also liked taking long walks in the woods around his property, telling stories along the way.  He enjoyed learning about and teaching others about history and had a huge collection of books that covered various historical events and time periods.  He also loved reading to his grandchildren and great grandchildren in his old rocking chair.  He was happiest spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. 

A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, January 14 at 2:00 pm at Dahlonega Baptist Church.  Dr. Steven Wright and Dr. William Hutcheson will officiate the service.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Robinson’s life.  Family will receive friends on Monday, January 13 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Dahlonega Funeral Home.  Burial will take place at Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Dahlonega Baptist Church at 234 Hawkins Street, Dahlonega, GA 30533 or Jeremiah’s Place at North Georgia Interfaith Ministries, P.O.
