Mrs. Gladys Lurlene Smith Phillips, age 86 of Matheson Road, Toccoa passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Oaks at Scenic View in Baldwin.
A daughter of the late Willie B. and Nellie Mae Mote Smith, she was born July 22, 1933 in Habersham County, Georgia having lived most of her life in Stephens County. She was a homemaker, a member of Straight Way Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ellene Holbrooks and by a brother, John E. Smith.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Newton Phillips of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Truitt and Donna Phillips and Wayne and Doris Phillips both of Toccoa and Charles and Rhonda Phillips of Mt. Airy; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Holbrooks of Cornelia.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 8, 2020, 11 O’clock a.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Madison McCrackin and The Reverend Alvin Burns officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Kevin Phillips, Brian Phillips, Brian Pulliam, Keith McCurry, Zack McCrackin and Chuck Billingsley.
The family will be at the home on Matheson Road and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Gladys Smith Phillips.
