Terence Frederick “Terry” Slater, age 98, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 27, 2019. He was a resident of Dahlonega for the past 31 years. Terry was a retired architect who enjoyed writing, videography, playing the clarinet and saxophone, and leading his own big band orchestra. He was a member of Winds of Peace Fellowship in Dawsonville.
Terry was born in York, England, in 1921, the son of the late Frederick Buxton and Dora Ivy (Horsman) Slater. Terry enlisted in the British Royal Navy at age 18 and fought bravely during World War II. Following the war, he led a trek with his brother through Africa, across the Sahara Desert, and later immigrated to Canada, where he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Terry came to America in 1958, settling in California. There he met Joyce Sharp. The couple married in 1964. The Slaters finally settled in Marietta, Georgia. Terry was the architectural engineer for the Colony Square project in Atlanta. Upon retirement, he opened his own audio-video recording studio in Dahlonega. At age 96 Terry wrote six screen plays, proving to the world that he was still sharp as a tack! He enjoyed hot fish & chips, a good joke, “all things music.”
He is survived by his darling wife Joyce, daughter Karen Slater and son Nigel Lowe, three granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
