Lucy Stone James Matthews

Mrs. Lucy Stone James Matthews, age 92 of Hilltop Lane, Toccoa passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

A daughter of the late Edd and Maude Holbrooks Stone, she was born October 20, 1927 in Oconee County, South Carolina having lived most of her life in Stephens County. She was retired from Coats and Clark and was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Billie Howard James in 1968, by her second husband, Fred Matthews and by a son, Ronald James.

Survivors include five grandchildren, Michelle and Larry Orange, Ashley James, Jay Fowler, Kim Fowler and Tiffany Buffington all of Toccoa; step-daughter, Ladonna Fowler of Toccoa; six great-grandchildren, Beth, Jazper, Riley, Malaya, Colt and Remi; sisters, Barbara Cain of Anderson, South Carolina and Rachel English of Six Mile, South Carolina.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 26, 2019, 2 O’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Jessie Colbert and the Reverend Roy Rogers officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the service time at 2 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Lucy James Matthews.
