Grace Marie Cody Cash

Obituary Date: Sunday, December 15, 2019

Grace Marie Cody Cash went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at the age of 89. She was born May 9, 1930, to the late Lewis C. Cody, Sr., and Violet Ballew Cody of Mount Airy, GA.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Albert Maxwell (Max) Cash.  She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kerry and Dianne Cash of Mount Airy; her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Brett Black, of Flowery Branch; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanettie and Curtis Crocker of Madison, Mississippi; and brother and sister-in-law, Lewie and Dianne Cody, of Cornelia.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren:  Courtney Cash, Kyle Cash, Laryssa Gragg, Brandon McLain, Rebekah Franklin, Isaac Black, Anna Kate Becker, Natalie Black, and eleven great-grandchildren:  Ebie Thieme, Kaley Ladd, Jake Ladd, Luke McLain, Emily McLain, Hudson McLain, Asher Franklin, Amelia Franklin, Jensen Goble, Adelyn Cash and J Maxwell Black; and four great-great grandchildren: Lakely Thieme, Aliyah Napier, Sierra Napier, and Aria McGhee.  Family was very important to Grace.  She was proud of her children and grandchildren, and they all called her “Nandy.”

She attended Baldwin High School, Piedmont College, Western Carolina University and the University of Georgia.  She was an accomplished educator at all grade levels in the Habersham County School System for 30 years and loved her many students.  During her later years of service, she was the school counselor at South Habersham Jr. High School.  After retirement, she worked for Cornelia Florist and Habersham Hardware.  She was a faithful, active member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church, where she served as Church Clerk and Sunday School Director, and Christ Place Church (formerly known as Blackshear Place Baptist Church), where she served in the Senior Adult and Shut In Ministries. She was an energetic, tireless worker who loved serving others and who touched many lives both in the classroom and in her church communities.

The family would like to thank the staffs of The Oaks Scenic View and Pruitt Hospice for their loving care for Grace during her extended illnesses.
