Hattie Watkins-Brown

Hattie Watkins-Brown a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at her home in Gainesville, surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, November 11, 2019. From her birth on a farm in Oglethorpe County to Mack and Emma (Dowdy) Watkins on October 26, 1924 to her death she embraced people around her with love, faith, and kindness. Hattie was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church for nearly 70 years, serving as an usher. She was employed at ConAgra and retired after 35 years. She was also very involved in the community, known as Ms. Hattie, famous for her biscuits, pies, and treats amongst the neighborhood children. Hattie was preceded in death by her partner of 32 years, George Henry Young; two sons Otha Lee Brown and Michael Lee Brown; one daughter, Annie Lois Watkins-Whelchel; One Grand-child, Shirl Hood; Two brothers, Tommie (Sheba) Watkins and Anderson (Mary) Watkins; Three sisters, Susie(Thomas)Bailey, Lue (Marcus) Winters, Lizzie(Tom) Johnson. Sister-in-law, Berniece Watkins; brother-in-laws Lyman Williams, Junior Cheeks, and Zeke Watson. Hattie is survived by her youngest daughter, GeorgeAnn young who was her primary care giver along with her granddaughter Lishonda Hudson for over 10 years. One brother, Willie B. Watkins of Gainesville. Three sisters, Ellen Cheeks of flowery Branch, Alice-Mae Watson of Gainesville, and Annie Williams of Gainesville. She also leaves behind Eight grandchildren; Twelve great-grand children; Eleven great-great grandchildren and a host of family members and friends. Hattie devoted her life to loving those around her and she will be greatly missed, but we know she will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Antioch Baptist Church at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 18, 2019 between the hours of 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
