John Wayne Jones

Obituary Date: Monday, October 21, 2019

John Wayne Jones (J.W.), 72, of Cumming Georgia went to sing with his beautiful baritone voice in God’s choir on October 18th, 2019. J.W. was preceded in death by his father John Jones. He is survived by his mother Arlene Jones, his wife Elaine Jones, his daughter Faith Campbell, son-n-law Wesley Campbell, Grandchildren Aidan Campbell and Autumn Campbell, Son Justin Jones-Day, and son-n-law Clint Jones-Day and his siblings Mark Jones (wife Laura Jones), and Paul Jones (wife Anette Jones) as well as his nephew Jason Jones and grandniece Summer Jones.

Throughout his life J.W. enjoyed music and theatre.  He played clarinet in the high school marching band, sang in various church choirs and performed in high school musicals and continued to perform through his adult life in community theatre musicals. In his later years he was a member of the North Georgia Barbershop Singers singing the baritone part. At home he would break into song at any moment always picking the perfect song for the situation. He knew every word and verse to all of the old hymns with his Baptist background and Methodist adult life. He passed on his love of music to his children and grandchildren.

J.W. enjoyed the outdoors.  Camping, when his family was young, going on the annual family beach trip to sit on the sand and watch the waves, playing in the garden, or just sitting on the porch at home on a nice evening.  His love for gardening earned him the title of Master Gardener through Forsyth County. He could name any tree or flower in the area by the shape of the leaves and tell you whether that plant would survive better in full sun or shade.

J.W. was a lifelong student. He attended and graduated from  Kane High School in Pennsylvania. He went on to Mansfield State College before joining and serving in the Navy aboard the USS Observation Island as an Electronics Technician. He earned his  AA degree in Math and Fine arts from Brevard Community College. His BS in Business Management was earned from Florida Technological University and finally his Master’s Degree from SMU. He had an extensive vocabulary and an eloquence of speech due to his intelligence and a love for learning.

He enjoyed traveling the world throughout his career as a bank consultant with FDIC, EDS, and then Bank of America.  He worked in places all over the United States and more distant locations like Saudi Arabia and Spain. He had two expat residencies in Sydney Australia and Milton Keynes UK . Many times his travel allowed for his family to also visit these many places with him.  Personal trips included Alaska, China, Thailand, Germany, France and several cruises to various ports of call.

J.W. also had a finesse for the culinary arts. His love for food and cooking ranged from a Friday night grill to taking a cooking class in Thailand.  If he ever cooked pork you knew it was always going to be a late dinner! However he was just as happy with Saltines and Peanut Butter for a late night snack.

J, John, J.W., or  Mr. Jones, people knew him by many names, but all knew him as a well rounded, great man with class, a quick wit, and always with a song.
