Charles Alvin Barrett

Charles Alvin Barrett, 89, of Gainesville passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019 in the chapel of Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel with Rev. Tony Kemp officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Born on June 3, 1930, he was the son of the late Samuel Dunlap and Jurell Montine Seymour Barrett. He was a retired Rural Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service with 34 years of service. He and his wife were avid farmers and gardeners. Often they would supply the community with the fruits and vegetables. They were well known for their green beans and tomatoes. He was a longtime member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church where he served as delegate for the North GA Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was formerly very active in the North Hall High School Booster Club and the Gainesville Civitan Club.

He and Elizabeth were married 55 years prior to her death in 2014.  One of his favorite activities was staying up all night cooking Bar B Que for the Fall Festival at Hopewell United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barrett is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Elizabeth Hurley Barrett; son, Randall Charles Barrett; brothers, Roy and Samuel D. Barrett, Jr. and sister Martha Barrett.

Mr. Barrett is survived by his son, Lamar Barrett of Gainesville; grandchildren, Taylor Barrett of Gainesville, Joshua and Ashley Barrett of Gainesville, Zach and Joanna Barrett of Mt. Airy, Nicholas Barrett of Gainesville, Jacob Barrett of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Ava, Oakleigh, Beckham and a number of nieces and nephews.
