Mr. Tommy Michael Stephenson, age 64, of Commerce died Monday, September 16, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Stephenson, better known to everyone as just Tommy, was born in Commerce to the late, Willie ODell and Johnnie Sue Wood Stephenson. Tommy was a respiratory therapist at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and a member of River of Life Worship Center. Tommy was also a former mayor of the City of Commerce, Jackson County Commissioner, GA State Representative,GA House of Representatives Majority Whip. In addition to his parents, Tommy was also preceded in death by his son, Bo Stephenson; brothers, Leon and Bobby Stephenson; sisters, Joan Stephenson and Kay Franklin.
Tommy is survived by his daughters, Kayla Smith (Charlie) and April Toney both of Commerce; sons, Jody and Steven Rogers both of Commerce; four grandchildren, Charlsey and Ceily Smith, Ella and Jack Toney; brothers, David and Jimbo Stephenson both of Commerce; and sisters, Linda Adams of Nicholson and Shirley Bell of Jefferson.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 19th at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with Rev. Russ Brown officiating with the interment following at Grey Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday night from 5-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Commerce Rec. Department or the Commerce Public Library.
