Melvin Ray Savage

Mr. Melvin Ray Savage, age 90, of Toccoa, Georgia, passed away Friday, September 6th, 2019, at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, S.C.

Melvin was born on February 28th, 1929 to Russell and Amy Savage in Raleigh, N.C. He was a graduate of Cathedral Latin High School in Raleigh N.C. and attended Georgia State University in Atlanta. Melvin had a 60 year career in sales management and as a lubrications specialist with several companies in the petroleum industry. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After that, he lived in Atlanta and Augusta Georgia, moving his family to Toccoa in 1965. He loved his family and many friends, enjoyed traveling, sports, and attending church. He was a long standing member of First United Methodist Church in Toccoa. He was in the Trogdon Sunday school class and served in several other capacities in the church. He was a member of the Toccoa Elks Lodge, American Legion, and the VFW. He was very amiable, friendly, had a cheerful fun loving personality, and always enjoyed generously helping people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Savage Sr., his brother, Russell Savage Jr., sister, Frances Shook, and niece, Debbie Stallings.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Savage, his daughter Christie Guest (Robert), his son Greg Savage (Kellie), six grandchildren - Samantha, Vanessa, Sabrina, and Charlie Guest, Emma and Garrison Savage, sister-in-law Joan Young, three nephews and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 10, 2019 at 2 P.M. at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend Brent White and Reverend Rick Gillian officiating. The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Monday from 6 P.M. til 8 P.M

Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by V.F.W. Post 4346
