John Clinton Donehoo was born February 24, 1941, in Scottsboro, AL. He passed away on Monday, August 26, 2019 due to complications of ALS. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ercel Friel Donehoo, daughter, Kathryn Donehoo Fitzgerald, (husband Mark), son, John Brian Donehoo, (wife, Jenny) and five grandchildren, Will, Megan, Caroline, Alaina and Mason. He grew up in Oneonta, AL, and graduated from Oneonta High School where he excelled in sports and academics, receiving the Danforth Award for achievement and character. In 1963 John graduated from Auburn University with a degree in electrical engineering. While there, he was president of Sigma Pi Fraternity and was a member of ODK, a leadership honorary. John began his career at Martin Marietta in Orlando, Fl, and earned a Masters of Engineering from the U of FL. In California, while working for Litton Industries, he earned a Masters of Business. His career took him to Satellite Positioning Corp. in Houston and Teledyne Systems in Mobile, Al. He finished his career as President of Litton Electro-Optical Systems in Texas. Retirement took John and Ercel to the beautiful community of Keowee Key on Lake Keowee in SC, where he extensively volunteered and served as President of the Board of Directors for their neighborhood and the Newcomers Club. He also served as project manager for the renovation of the Fitness center, Administration Building, tennis courts, Activity Center and N Marina swimming pool. John was a member of several tennis teams which won the SC state championship. In 2007 they won the National Championship. Also an accomplished golfer, he won the Greenbriar Classic Senior Golfers of America tournament in 2007. In 2018 the Keowee Key Men’s Golf Association awarded him the Arthur Gray Memorial golf trophy. ALS required a move to Lanier Village Estates where he has received wonderful care. John leaves this life knowing he was loved because of all the cards, calls and visits which were sincerely appreciated.
