Golden Lee Chester

Obituary Date: Wednesday, August 28, 2019

Mr. Golden Lee Chester, age 74, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019.

Lee was born in Lumpkin County on December 18, 1944 to the late William Raymond “Tug” and Essie Lou McClure Chester.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson Tyler Woody.  Lee was a hard-working man and honorably served his country in the US Army.  During his service, Lee was an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War.  After his military service, he retired from Mohawk Industries after 42 years and was a poultry and cattle farmer his entire life. 

Lee never met a stranger and was always there to offer a helping hand to anyone.  He enjoyed riding the roads, old cars, making moonshine and being a member of the Dairy Queen Breakfast Club.  He loved and faithfully provided for his family.  He was a proud “Papa” to 11 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.  Lee was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-laws Karen and Gordon Woody, Hannah and David Grizzle, Janet and Patrick Jackson; son Jeffrey Chester; sons and daughters-in-laws Michael and Ashley Chester, and Matthew and Meghan Chester, all of Dahlonega; grandchildren Allison Woody Head, Kristen Woody, Logan Woody, Emily Grizzle, Ethan Grizzle, Trey Grizzle, Patrick Jackson, Kate Jackson, Keira Jackson and McCall Chester; sisters Eva Collier, Ora Roland and Era Rider; sister and brother-in-law Ola and Jerry Davis, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate and Mrs. Kathy Pitchford will provide the eulogy. Interment will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
