MSgt Richard "Dick" Russell Hardy

MSgt Richard "Dick" Russell Hardy, age 87, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019.

MSgt Hardy was born in Habersham County on June 19, 1932 to the late Charles Broadus “C.B.” and Callie Allman Hardy.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Pauline Hardy, Inez Yates, Doris Snyder, Geraldine Justice, Charles Hardy and Barbara McDonald. 

MSgt Hardy served his country for 21 years and retired honorably from the United States Air Force.  His service to his country spans from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX to the country of Japan.  After basic training, he came back home to marry the love of his life Millie Jean Stancil.    MSgt Hardy’s service then took him to the Naval Air Station in Hutchinson, KS,  Keflavik, Iceland, Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL, Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, AK, Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, TX, Wakkanai Air Force Base in Japan, again in Elmendorf, Anchorage, AK, and Patrick Air Force Base in Satellite Beach, FL.  MSgt Hardy finished his service to his country then continued his education at North Georgia Technical School and got a degree in small engine and automotive repair. 

MSgt Hardy was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville, GA.  His favorite pastimes were being a Go-Kart mechanic, feeding his catfish in his pond, and watching NASCAR Races.  MSgt Hardy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren affectionately called him "papa". 

Survivors include his wife of 66 years Mildred “Millie” Hardy; daughters and sons-in-law Angie and Wayne Gaddis, and Cassie and Bill Martin; grandchildren Derrick and Timber Gaddis, Evan Tate and Kelley Gaddis, and Russ Gaddis; great-grandchildren Xander Gaddis, Zach Gaddis, Dallas Gaddis, Kindal Whitlock, and Kinleigh Whitlock; sister Marilyn Hardy Brannon, Jonesboro; brother William M. Hardy, Mobile, AL.

MSgt Hardy’s wishes were to be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later time.
