Alan R. Curtis

Alan R. Curtis, 75 died Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Seasons Hospice after a 12 year battle with cancer.  

He was son of Robert A. Curtis and Arlene Young Curtis.  Alan graduated from Reading Memorial High School, class of 1962.  He entered and served in the U.S Air Force for four years.  After his service he graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy, Embalming and Funeral Directing in Boston, Massachusetts.  Alan served his apprenticeship of funeral service in Windsor, Vermont.  He then joined the masons and later became the Worshipful Master at the Vermont Lodge #15 in Windsor.   

For almost 40 years Alan built his business as a landlord in Vermont and New Hampshire.  He owned many properties in Lebanon, New Hampshire and Hartford, Vermont.  Alan would buy distressed apartment buildings and enjoyed bringing them back to life for Dartmouth graduate students, nurses, and the hard working people of the Upper Valley.   

In 2000 he married the love of his life, Kathleen, who has stood by his side through thick and thin.  They enjoyed their home on Jericho Road in Hartford, with all the natural beauty of Vermont.  Later they moved to Naples, Florida and then to Suwanee, Georgia.  Survived by his wife Kathleen, sisters, Carol Vatcher and Joan Bahea, step-sons Fraser & Andrew, their wives Carolyn & Lauren and three loving granddaughters, Ellie, Madeline and Nora.  

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Level Creek Methodist Church 4844 Suwanee Dam Road, 30024.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23, 2019 at 3:00 p.m., at Level Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor Elaine Wilder officiating.  He will lie in state at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will be at Level Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery.
