Yvonne Elizabeth Danson

Yvonne Elizabeth Danson, "Bonnie," age 92, of Pendergrass, GA, passed peacefully in her sleep, on Friday, August 16, 2019. She was born in Miami, Florida on May 4, 1927, to Bessie and Edward Hawkins. In her teens, she attended modeling school, which began her passion for stylish clothes and keeping with the latest fashion trends. In 1949, while watching the Palatka Azaleas baseball team, her elegant look caught the eye of John "Danny" Danson, and they would be married later that year. The two moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where they would raise six children, one daughter, and five sons. Baseball continued as a significant pastime for the Dansons, and you could often find Bonnie in the stands as she attended the games of her children and in years to come, her grandchildren. In addition to being an avid baseball fan, Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and shopping for the perfect outfit.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Elwyn Danson, brothers Ray Hawkins, Gene Hawkins, and Edward Hawkins and grandchildren Ryan Henley and Dana Danson. She is survived by her sister Joy Murphy, brothers, Don (Beverly) Hawkins and Roy (Diane) Hawkins, daughter Sharon (Bruce) Henley, and sons, Tim (Francis) Danson, Roger (JoAnn) Danson, Scott (Debbie) Danson, Ed (BJ) Danson, and Steve (Sharon) Danson as well as 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Bonnie, or "Grammy" to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was always a joyful presence and fun to be around. Though her passing saddens her family, we rejoice in the knowledge that she reunited with her "Danny" on what would have been their 70th anniversary.
Services will be on Saturday, August 24, at 2:00 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka, FL and will be followed by a graveside ceremony. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services.
