Ronald William Ellington, age 74, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2019.
Born on February 27, 1945 in Clarkesville, Georgia, he was a son of the late Olaf and Bernell Eller Ellington. Mr. Ellington was a United States Air Force veteran and was a member and deacon of Clarkesville Baptist Church, where he enjoyed playing the hand bells. He played football at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee and later went on to coach athletics for 33 years, 28 of those years being with Habersham County School System. Accordingly, he was inducted into the Habersham Ring of Honor. In his spare time, he enjoyed football, fishing, gardening, his dogs and spending the summers on mission trips. Mr. Ellington was also a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Garrison Ellington of Cornelia; daughters and sons-in-law, Mandy and Mark Wade of Cornelia and Lydia and Jeremy Joffray of Athens; grandchildren, Molly, Mia and Maribeth Wade and Elizabeth Joffray; brother, Raymond Pelfrey of Pendleton, South Carolina; sisters, Elaine Charles of Carrollton, Georgia and Juanita Harvey of Graniteville, South Carolina; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are 1 pm on Monday, August 19, 2019, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Grady Walden and Rev. Dennis Wade officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrison Family Section of the Old Mud Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
