Dolly Faulkner

Obituary Date: Sunday, August 11, 2019

Mrs. Dolly Faulkner was a soft spoken, wise and very independent lady who made you laugh at her jokes made almost just above a whisper but with a sure delivered punch. Her grandchildren remember her saying many times “not so loud” quietly but ever so forcefully followed by a big hug and a kiss. Born in November of 1934 to the union of Rev. C. H. and Pauline Hargrove in Lincolnton, North Carolina, she moved to Gainesville, Georgia with her family while still a young child. She lived a loving life as a wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother in the Gainesville community, well known and loved by all.

A member of Greater Timber Ridge Baptist Church, she was also a regular attendee of New Life Baptist Church until her health began to fail. She loved to attend Bible Study at Myrtle Terrace where she lived. As an employee of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Mrs. Faulkner worked as a surgical technician for 50 years before retiring. After retiring she became an active volunteer at Good News at Noon where she shared her love for giving and helping others in various ways. She continued her lifelong caregiving career by “sitting with” and caring for elderly people in the community. While continuing to keep her ties with fellow workers at the hospital, she and her “crew” kept an engagement to meet for lunch on the fourth Monday of each month. Her passion and delight were her family and friends. She was known for her positivity, cheerfulness, her quiet words and calm demeanor.

Mrs. Faulkner departed this life peacefully in her sleep at her home on August 11, 2019. She was preceded in death by her father, Reverend C. H. Hargrove, mother, Pauline Hargrove, brother Charles Hargrove Jr, sister, Goldie Williams, daughter, Marsha Jones, grandchildren, Tyreze Jones and Khalalah Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving, devoted daughter, Diane Harris of Athens, Georgia; God-daughter, Debora Shirley of Gainesville, GA; two nephews, Charles Hendrix , Sr. and Stanley Randolph, both of Athens, GA; one granddaughter, Tiara Harris of Athens, GA; great grandchildren, Tiekeria Harris, De’Angelo Harris, Jordan Harris, all of Athens, GA, Khalil Jones, Jamesha Jackson, Maelia King, all of Gainesville, GA; Two great-great grandchildren, Braelin C.
