Mr. Charlie Sherman Pitts, age 87, of Defoor Road, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at his home.
A son of the late Sherman and Florence Cooper Pitts, he was born May 18, 1932 in Oconee County, South Carolina having lived most of his life in Stephens County. Charlie was a faithful member of The Pointe where he served for over 50 years. After his retirement from Patterson Pump, he became a caregiver to many individuals for 11 years in their last days. He enjoyed time with family, whom he loved very much. Charlie was the oldest of 12 brothers and sisters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Charlene and by deceased siblings, Wilburn Pitts, Claude Pitts, Marvin Pitts and Curtis Pitts.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Ida Faye Alexander Pitts; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Chester Meeks; granddaughters, Chesnee Dorsey and husband Danny, Bryson Crawford and husband Bryan; three great-grandchildren, Madison and Brayden Crawford and Drew Dorsey; siblings, Jackson and Ruth Pitts, Sadie and Terry Metcalfe, Ollie Wood, LD Pitts, Jimmy and Liz Pitts, Mary Kesler and Terry Pitts; sister-in-law, Janet Pitts.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 9, 2019, 2 O’clock p.m. at The Pointe with Pastor Jerry Chitwood and Pastor Chad Smith officiating. The body will lie in state at The Pointe from 1 p.m. until the service time. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Bob Lawson, Ed Hickman, Bob Westmoreland, Doyt Childs, Jack Hallford and Daniel Keller.
The family will be at the home on Defoor Road and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be made by visiting the website at www.acree-davisfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Pointe, 111 Fieldcrest Drive, Eastanollee, Georgia 30538 in memory of Mr. Charlie Sherman Pitts.
Interment will be in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Charlie Sherman Pitts.
