Mr. Roger Frederick Hower, age 82 of Willowdell Drive, Toccoa passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the Stephens County Hospital.
A son of the late Samuel Harrison Hower and Helen Vanschoelandt Hower, he was born on June 24, 1937 in Overland Park, Kansas. At age five, he moved to Annandale, Virginia, and graduated from Fairfax High School before attending college at the University of Maryland and the Manhattan School of Music, in New York City. He lived in New York City for a number of years where he pursued a career as a professional singer. In 1969, he married Myrtelina Travesier and moved back to Annandale, Virginia where he was employed and retired with State Farm Insurance. He and Myrtelina moved to Toccoa in 1999 where he was a member of the First Baptist Church. In his pastime he enjoyed, painting, reading, gardening and pottery.
Survivors include his wife Myrtelina Travesier Hower; daughter and son-in-law, Catrina and Nathan Brock of Toccoa; two sons and daughter-in-law, Warren and Amy Hower of Arlington, Virginia and Matthew Sherwin of New York; grandchildren, Austin Brock, Evan Brock, Luke Brock and Dania Brock; brother, Paul Hower of Bend, Oregon; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Leon Clem of Woodstock, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with The Reverend David Ritcey and The Reverend Brett Sanders officiating. The following will serve as pallbearers, Warren Hower, Matthew Sherwin, Nathan Brock, Austin Brock, Evan Brock and Luke Brock.
The family will be at their respective homes.
Private Interment will follow in the Toccoa City Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Roger Frederick Hower.
