Lourene Gilbert Martin, age 90, of Cumming, GA, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Seasons Hospice.
Lourene was born in Cumming on April 25, 1929 to the late Amos R. and Bertie Orr Gilbert. Lourene was a long-time member of Haw Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang solos and duets and played piano for plays.
After graduating from Cumming High School, she married Lee Roy Martin. She enjoyed cooking, canning and sewing.
Lourene was a substitute teacher until they opened grocery stores in Cumming and Dahlonega. After they leased the grocery stores, she helped Gayle in her clothing store and opened a gift shop in Fountain Square.
Lourene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, Lee Roy Martin, her in-laws, Belve H. and Monna Martin, and several nephews and cousins.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Ed Haight, and her grandson Rev. Jonathan Martin Haight and many relatives.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 28, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday, July 29, 2019 from 12 noon until 3:00 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 29, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Martin Haight, Rev. Ruel Martin, Rev. Gary Martin, and Rev. Larry Vaughan officiating. Internment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
