Thomas H. Owen, 86, of Dawsonville passed away Friday June 28, 2019 at North Georgia Assisted Living following a period of declining health.
Born May 27, 1933 to the late William “Mack” and Alma Maude Townsend Owen, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Mr. Owen was raised on an 80 acre farm and was the “baby” of 11 children. Thomas worked in pest control for over 38 years in his community and surrounding counties. He was a U. S. Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Owen was a member of the American Legion – Alpharetta Post for over 25 years. He loved Nascar racing, baseball, basketball, reading the newspaper and was an avid bird watcher. In 1944 he joined Liberty Baptist Church. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Nellie Kate Owen Stowers, James Merritt Owen, Jessie Clifton “JC” Owen, Larry Sanders Owen, Boyd Lamar Owen, Sybil Owen Suggs, Elizabeth Owen Duncan, Hazel Owen Arnold, George Mac Owen, and Charles Marvin Owen.
Surviving are his beloved granddaughter, Mandy Ayers and her husband Danny, and granddaughters, Emily Ayers, Cadey Ayers, and Anna Ayers.
Funeral services will be held Sunday June 30, 2019 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dennis Bottoms will officiate. Interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 12 noon until the service hour at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Youth Fund.
