Karen Hebert Hughes, 71 of Gainesville, Georgia, died on Thursday, June 13th, 2019 surrounded by her daughters and husband. A breast cancer survivor, she died after a year-long pancreatic cancer fight.
Karen was born in Taft, California on July 17, 1947. She was a 1965 graduate of Blountville (TN) High School where she was Head Majorette. She was also a 1981 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Karen practiced nursing for over 20 years and loved taking care of her patients. She was also a classical pianist and supporter of the arts.
Karen is preceded in death by her grandparents, William (Bill) and Nita Shipley, Eustis and Marie Hebert, parents Claud Hebert and Helen Shipley Phillips (Willard) and her parents-in-law Ben and Janie Hughes. She is survived by her husband Stephen Hughes, daughter Pam Majerus (Randy), daughter Alyson Engle (Tim), brothers – Gary Hebert (Pam), David Hebert (Sandy), Steve Hebert, and Ken Hebert (Terry), Step-mother, Doris Hebert, granddaughters, Molly and Maggie Majerus and Meredith Engle as well as her step-children Chris Hughes (DeAnna), Scott Hughes, Sara Carroll, and their children and grandchildren, Hunter and Megan Hughes, Christopher Ryan, Sylas, Escher, and Xavier Carroll and one great-grandchild, Zoey Gibson.
