Carolyn June Cunningham was born on Oct. 22, 1937 to her parents Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Pingley of Huttonsville, West Virginia, now deceased. She is survived by her husband, Monte T. Cunningham, Cumming, GA, and three daughters: Mrs. Joan C. Hughes, Marianna, FL; Ms. Laura L. Cunningham, Knoxville, TN; and Ms. Cheryl C. Kells, Cumming, GA. She was the fourth of five children. Her siblings include: Mrs. Delores Whitley, Pascagoula, MS (deceased); Mr. Richard H. Pingley, Jr., Madison Heights, VA (deceased); Mrs. Gwen Taylor, Pasadena, TX (deceased); and Mrs. Eula Robbins, Hampton, VA. She is also survived by three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. After graduating from high school, she worked as a clerk/secretary for the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force in Hampton, VA for four years, during which she and Mr. Cunningham were married on Nov. 24, 1957 in Hampton, VA. She raised their three daughters during the period from 1959 to 1976. She studied music and gave private music lessons, organized an Amblyopia Screening program and served as its Chairman for the PTA, and was an active member of the League of Women Voters. She also attended various colleges and accumulated nearly two years of college credits toward achieving a Bachelor’s Degree. She became an avid gardener, and raised many kinds of vegetables and fruits for her family, and gave much of her produce to some of the charitable organizations in her community. She also helped to deliver prepared foods to senior citizens as a member of Meals on Wheels or other organizations. She was always looking out for other people, and tried to help those in need. After raising her daughters, she worked as a Licensed Agent in both the Residential and Commercial Real Estate fields, and became a tax preparer/consultant and bookkeeper for an H&R Block Income Tax Office in Manchester, TN. She became a partner/owner of a Business Services Company, and performed bookkeeping, income tax return preparation, and word processing tasks on a business class computer. She had several medical problems over the years, the most difficult of which was a long running case of Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer disease that continued throughout the last thirty years of her life. She faced it, and didn’t let it get the best of her. Finally, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease that eventually brought an end to her life. Her family will certainly miss her in the years to come. Memorial service will be 3PM Friday, June 7, 2019 in a Stateroom of McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory.
