Walter C. “Wally” Phillips

Obituary Date: Wednesday, May 1, 2019

Walter C. “Wally” Phillips, age 71 of Dacula, GA, died suddenly Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Mr. Phillips has been cremated and a memorial service will be held Sunday, May 26, 2019 at 3 PM at Calvary Chapel Gwinnett. Pastor Mark Byrd will officiate. Wally was born in Winter Haven, FL. He was a Veteran of the Untied State Marine Corps and worked as a technician at Honeywell.

Wally Phillips was and is still a good man. He’s just changed locations and is in the presence of our Lord and Savior now. He had a big heart of compassion and a great ability to love his family through the turmoil and the storms of life. He gave to us freely of his time, abilities and talents which were many.

Wally C. Phillips is the husband of Madeline M. Phillips and father to two grown children. He is the proud Grandfather of 5 children. His son, Jonathan Phillips and wife Kathy Phillips have 3 sons, Ben, Brandon and Matthew. His daughter, Rhonda Phillips has a son and daughter, Nicholas and Haley. His only brother, Wendell Phillips and his wife Babs Phillips, and their children, Debra, Matthew, Jared and Michael all reside in central Florida.

Wally served in the Marine Corps for 10 years 4 months and 8 days. When it came time to re-enlist he didn’t want to be separated from his family anymore, so he gave up a career and retirement with the military to support his family and to be present with them. The separations while in the military where exceptionally hard on him as his main purpose in life was to have a family.

He was devoted to us and was involved in our children’s lives in school and at home. He also loved and enjoyed interacting with our children during home, holidays and church activities. Many times he chaperoned and chauffeured many fun-loving kids on church related events including teen trips and camping.

He worked hard to provide and protect his family just as he had in the service and spent 16 years working at Martin Marietta in Orlando. Then due to cutbacks, he lost his job with them in 1994. He was able to get a job here in the Atlanta area with Scientific Atlanta and we relocated here.

He was so happy to get to move here and enjoy the change of seasons compared to the perpetual summer of Florida. He loved the lush greens of Georgia.

After several other jobs that kept him located in his beautiful and beloved Georgia, he retired a few years ago and was thoroughly enjoying this season of his life.

He was outside working on his garden project in the beautiful greens of Georgia.  He stepped from a glorious cool Georgia day straight into the glory and beauty of heaven.
