Al Udas, in his usual quiet way, went to his heavenly home on May 19, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Father Jorge Carranza will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday, from 10:30 a.m. until the service hour.
Al was born in Springfield, Ma on November 14, 1944 to Joe and Pearl Majors Udas, He made his home in Longmeadow, MA until 1971 when he married Carlene Belanger and moved to Enfield, CT where they lived until moving to GA in 2000.
He leaves his loving wife of 48 years, Carlene and his three children. Russell & Lisa Ouellette of Talmo, Scott & Carol Udas of Cartersville, Sandra and Brian Hicks of Gainesville, grandson Scott Udas, Jr. of Enfield, CT, granddaughters, Victoria Ouellette Mason of Chicago, IL, Shelby & James Daniel of Dawsonville; grandsons Cody & Haylee Hicks of Cumming.
Al was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church where he served as usher for over ten years. He was also a 4th Degree Sir Knight in the Knights of Columbus where he served as Membership Director for 8 years until his Parkinson’s disease made it too difficult for him to continue. He and Carlene volunteered with Saint Vincent de Paul for 10 years, caring for the poor of Forsyth County. His hobby was woodworking, which he dearly loved, and he created many great pieces over the years which he shared with his children and grandchildren. Having to give up woodworking because of his disease was certainly one of the low points of his life.
Most Admirably, Al had a huge heart. A man of few words who showed true character when he adopted Carlene’s three young children shortly after they got married. A few years later they gave birth to a beautiful baby boy Alan.
He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Alan (2014), his mom (1968) and his dad (1971) and brother Robert (1974).
