Mr. Rex Anderson, age 81 of Eastanollee ByPass, Eastanollee passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Stephens County Hospital.
A son of the late Rev. John Oscar Anderson and Mary Mae Jones Anderson, he was born April 9, 1938 in Habersham County, Georgia having lived most of his life in Stephens County. He owned and operated Rex Auto Sales and Eastanollee Barber Shop for many years. He was a member of the Georgia National Guard with 28 years of service. He was a member and current chairman of the Stephens County Board of Health for 30 years and was of the Baptist faith.
He was a former Stephens County Commissioner having served for two terms. He served during the time that the County was in a financial crisis. As quoted by Phyllis Ayers, “It was a stressful time in 2003 but Rex was always supportive of implementing the ways of the corporate accounting world to begin moving the county to a stronger financial position. He listened intently to what people had to say while balancing the requirement of also running a government and personally shouldered the burden of controversial issues. His commitment to the service of his community is among one of the highest levels that I have experienced.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Waycaster Anderson.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Claudia Ware Anderson; daughter, Millicent (Mike) Fountain of Eastanollee; sons, John Kenneth (Donna) Anderson of Toccoa, Joshua David (Von) Anderson of Manhattan, Kansas; step-daughter, Mandi (Brian) Holbrooks of Eastanollee; step-son, Chad (Patricia) Collins of Eastanollee; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.
