Azalee Hulsey Cantrell

Obituary Date: Monday, May 13, 2019

Mary Azalee Cantrell, born January 15, 1942 in Hall County, GA, went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2019 following an extended battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Azalee was a 1960 graduate of North Hall High School. She married the love of her life, Joe Cantrell on February 22, 1964. In life, Azalee held many titles. She was a daughter and a loving older sister. She was an excellent pastor’s wife and a wonderful mother to Patsy, Pam, and Patti. Azalee was an amazing Nana to Dylan and Dakota, and she loved her new role as a great-grandmother. She was an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, and a Nana to many more children both blood related and chosen.

In April of 2016, God saw fit for Azalee to become a resident of the Bell Minor Home in Gainesville, GA. God provided a loving environment staffed with amazing people to help the family provide for Azalee’s care. The family will be forever grateful to the dedicated staff, nurses, CNAs, and doctors who have taken care of her during this illness.

Azalee was preceded in death by her parents Ned and Margaret (Ellis) Hulsey, and her husband, Rev. Joe Cantrell.

Survivors include daughters, Patsy Lewis, Clermont, Pam and Jeff Forrester, Gainesville, and Patti and Craig West, Gainesville. The grandchildren include Dylan Lewis, Gainesville, and Dakota and Allie Lewis, Flowery Branch, great-grandson Atlas Lewis, Gainesville, and great-granddaughter-to-be Kaia Azalee Lewis, Flowery Branch. Sisters and brothers include Mitchell and Geneva Stevens, Murrayville, Cleburn Hulsey, Murrayville, and Tommy Hulsey, Gainesville. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who are viewed as family.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14.  Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 with interment to follow at the Etowah Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County. While flowers are always appreciated, those who wish to show their love in other ways are encouraged to donate to the Bell Minor Home in Gainesville, GA.
