Norma Jean Elizabeth Galehouse Stanton

Obituary Date: Tuesday, May 7, 2019

Norma Jean Elizabeth Galehouse Stanton, age 90, of Gainesville, GA passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019.

Born May 29, 1928 in Akron, Ohio

She was from many places, most recently Gainesville, GA, but also Ohio, Nevada, Connecticut and Florida, and passed on to theher final residence in Heaven on May 7, 2019.  She was excited to be moving on and to seeing many of her loved ones again after long separations.

She was the daughter of J. Frederick Galehouse and Gertrude Agnes (Baker) Galehouse.  Her siblings include Marilyn, Richard, James, Carol, and Lawrence so it was a full house.

She had a rambling childhood as the family moved around from Ohio to Nevada and most points in between.  She had visited or lived in at least 45 US States, most of the Canadian Provinces, Mexico, and much of Europe.

She was a nurse by training and married Vincent A. Stanton on October 27, 1951 at Saint Joseph’s Church in Alliance, Ohio and begin filling her own house with children, including Karen, Gail, Mike, Jeff, Eric and Andy.  This led to her Sons in law Bob and George, and Daughters in Law Bonnie and Doris joining the family.  Later came along the grandchildren Joshua, Katie, Bill, Becky, Mathew, Jennifer, Alex, Mackenzie, Mimi, Elijah, and Justin. Then next were great grandchildren, Hayden and Lily Rose. She is also survived by her sisters Marilyn and Carol, brother Dick and sisters-in-law Mary Anne and Norma.

She led a hectic and active life, could ski on water and snow, and could skate backwards but not forwards.  She loved to travel, and always was on the move.  In addition, she loved her family and the Catholic Church and served all with enthusiasm.

And she is really looking forward to seeing her parents, brothers Jim and Larry, Brother in law Al, and her husband Vince who she has been away from for far too long.

Services will be held on Monday, May 13 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael’s Church in Gainesville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Norma’s favorite charity, Boys Town, or a charity of your choice.
