Mr. Horace Russell Humphries, age 85, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019.
Horace Russell Humphries was born January 6, 1934 to Claud and Ellen (Mote) Humphries in White County Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers and sisters, Lewis and Annette Humphries, Verlon and Gene Humphries, Elouise and Donald Satterfield, Jackie Humphries, and brother-in-law, Charles Fain.
Russell started playing the Mandolin at the age of 7. He and his siblings would play music in the front yard and the whole community would be there to enjoy. He retired from General Motors with 30 years of service.
Russell played with Disciples of Christ and Living Water music groups. He also played in the House Band at the County House Restaurant. Every Saturday night you could find he and Geneva at Tallulah Falls Oprah House. He also enjoyed a good Gospel Jam Session at friends houses'.
Every Sunday morning, Russell enjoyed the fellowship and playing his Mandolin at Shoal Creek Baptist Church (The Church that he loved). His love for God, his family, Church, and friends could be felt by everyone who knew him. Russell enjoyed spending time with his Grand's who adored him. He and Geneva love to travel with friends and family. All who knew him, loved him.
Survived by his Loving Family, his wife of 64 years, Geneva Humphries; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrell and Jackie Sisum, Kathey and Michael Thomas; grandchildren, Jody and Deana Self, Michael and Nellie Joiner, Eric and LeAnn Thomas, and James and Kellie Garrett; great-grandchildren, Alston, Bryson, Joslyn, and Maddie Self, Cooper Joiner, Jackson and Lilly Thomas, and Mack Garrett; sister, Ruth Fain; sister-in-law, Janice Humphries; special friends Susan and Danny Thomas; and his special dog Princess.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Stacy Dyer, Dr. Joe Vernon, and Rev. Randall Ewing will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Friday, May 10, 2019 and from 10 am- 1:30 pm Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the funeral home.
