Hank Houston quietly departed this earth on May 4, 2019. Born June 1, 1948, he was the son of the late Charlie Houston and the late Martha Jean Wright. He was preceded in death by grandparents Eugene and Addie Wright and Sam and Sarah Houston.
Hank served in the US Army from 1966-1969. He was an FCC certified air frame and power plant mechanic and considered this to be his most satisfying work. During his retirement, he maintained an office at Sweetwater Coffeehouse in Sautee where he spent many happy hours and served as a consultant to his distinguished and varied colleagues.
Hank was a devoted practitioner of meditation and a great lover of books, music, conversation and laughter. Despite many health challenges, his outlook remained positive, always trusting in a higher power. He viewed life through a lens of gratitude crediting meditation, his twelve step journey, the care he received at the VA, and the love of his family. His health transitions were eased by the generous loving care of Hospice of Northeast Georgia. In lieu of flowers, Hank requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society of Northeast Georgia. He also wished to advise anyone who smokes to stop immediately.
Hank is survived by his wife, Lisa Deaton and her mother Bernice Deaton of Sautee Nacoochee; daughter, Monica Poole and Donnie Poole of Cumming, and their daughters, Parker and Reagan; son, Gerald Houston of Gainesville, Kim Houston of Decatur and their daughters, Sophia and Olivia; sister, Linda Rice of Sautee Nacoochee; niece, Addie Rice and her children, Owen, Remy and Liam. Other significant survivors include, Irene Houston Floyd of Gainesville, Richard and Jimmie Tinius and their extended family, and numerous colorful and talented cousins scattered hither and yon.
A gathering of family and friends is scheduled for Sunday, May 12 from 5-7 pm at Nacoochee Presbyterian Church. A celebration of life will follow on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 2pm at the church. Rev. Bob Prim will officiate.
