Charles Edward Schultz

Obituary Date: Friday, May 3, 2019

Charles Edward Schultz was born on May 9, 1928 at a very small hospital in

Winamac, Indiana to the parents of Charles R. Schultz and Merna (Groves)

Schultz. Chuck, as he was called most of his life, grew up in the North

Judson area out in the country. He was the eldest of two children, a sister,

who has preceded him in death.

Chuck met his life love at a Rural Youth Club dance in Jasper County, In.

They started dating, about 1½ years, while Mary was still in high school.

Chuck joined the Navy and while on a leave home he proposed to Mary and

they were married on June 13, 1950 at his parents home in Winamac. Chuck

returned to active duty in the Navy where Mary joined him in Jacksonville,

FL. They later moved to Rhode Island where Chuck was stationed at

Quonset Point, RI. Their eldest daughter was born on December 10, 1952

at the Naval hospital for the exorbitant amount of $10. In 1955, they

returned to Indiana to set up their home out in the country near Francesville,

IN. Chuck took employment at the local feed mill where he worked for

about 7 years. He then went to work at N.I.P.S.CO where he was employed

as a lineman to a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed running the large

crane, but said it was really scary setting those large electric poles.

In 1956, Chuck and Mary welcomed their second child, a son, into the

world on January 18, 1956, Charles J Schultz. Known to all as C.J.

A few years later they designed and built their new home in Medaryville,

IN; fondly called 'the little green house on the hill'!! That home was a

haven for numerous animals from cats, dogs, birds, a lamb and many calves

and lots of great friends they had over the years living there. In 1963, their

youngest daughter, Joleen Marie, was born and grew up in that sweet home.

Chuck and Mary stayed in Medaryville, IN being very active in the

Medaryville Methodist church. Chuck was quite active in the local Mason's

where he served in every position and ended up as the Worthy Patron.

In 1976, Chuck and Mary celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by

renewing their vows. All the children were in attendance and a part of the

ceremony. At the end of the service, a fellow parishioner took them for a

horse drawn carriage ride around Medaryville.

Chuck and Mary enjoyed camping and dancing. Almost every weekend

they went dancing with two other couples who were long term friends.

In 1999, Chuck and Mary packed up a few of their collected treasures and

moved to Sun City, CA where they shared many great times getting together

with and getting to know some really awesome friends and neighbors. They

lived in Sun City till 2013 when Mary passed after a long hard battle with

cancer. Chuck then moved into a retirement home and in 2017 he moved to

Georgia so he would be closer to his eldest daughter. Chuck became friends

with many great folks while he lived in the Buford area.

Chuck Schultz is survived by his two daughters, Kristy Sheetz Gray

(husband George Gray); Joleen Schultz (husband David Darnell); son,

Charles J Schultz (C.J.) (wife Melinda Schultz); two granddaughters,

Heather E Rudd and April Schultz; two great grandsons, Kaden and Ryker

Rudd.

Funeral service for Chuck will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 4 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel, Buford, GA. Rev. Jason Mincey will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3-4 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church in memory of Chuck.

Chuck will be transported to Riverside, CA where he will be at his final

resting place with wife Mary, who preceded him in death, at the Memorial

Veterans Cemetery. There will be an Honor Guard Military service a that

time.
