William Rocco "Rocky" Sapone passed away peacefully at his home in Cumming, GA, just two days before his 89th birthday (April 21, 1930 to April 19, 2019). His parents immigrated from Italy, and he was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ.
Rocky served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Afterwards, he enjoyed a long career as an aviation mechanic getting his start with Lockheed, then travelling the world as a flight engineer with General Electric, overseeing Chesebrough Ponds’ aviation fleet, and testing Sikorsky’s air crafts before they were shipped to the Navy. Rocky’s passions were many. He was an avid reader and researcher, with great intellectual curiosity and innate spiritualism. Early in his life Rocky owned small planes and rare sports cars. He used his skills to refurbish cars and tune motorcycles. Rocky loved motorcycling and traveled throughout the country on his BMW's. He retired to Cumming, in part, to enjoy its great motorcycling, especially the Smokey Mountains to the north. Rocky dedicated the last third of his life to volunteer work, from Meals on Wheels to coaching hundreds of people through life’s hardships. Rocky did not esteem material possessions or titles highly; instead, he cherished family, people and friendships. He was grateful for his many friends in Georgia and Connecticut. Rocky is survived by his daughter, son, grandson, two sisters, brother, and many nieces and nephews.
