Walter E. “Sparky” Martin

Walter E. “Sparky” Martin, age 88, of Sugar Hill, GA passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Jean Martin. Mr. Martin is survived by children, Lisa Martin Kohlhaas and husband, Karl, Lawrenceville, GA, Walter Lennon and Janice Martin, Dahlonega, GA; Lance Martin, Sugar Hill, GA; grandchildren, Lindsey Jones, Michael Kohlhaas, Cody and Grace Martin, Matthew Kohlhaas; great grandchildren, Lexi Bishop, Luke Bishop, Brody Martin, Boone Martin; sister-in-law, Judy Puckett Martin, Buford, GA; niece, Nan Beard, Flowery Branch, GA; and other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Martin was born on April 2, 1931. He graduated from Flowery Branch High School in 1951. Mr. Martin was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He served in the Korean War in the 25^th Infantry Division from November 15, 1951 until August 19, 1953, and received an honorable release. Mr. Martin’s work career included the following: Sugar Hill Shoe Shop; Georgia Boot Company; Gwinnett County Hospital System; and Scott Hudgens Company. He was a Mason and member of Buford Masonic Lodge 292 F. & A.M.   He was a member of Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of GA Taylor Chapter # 48. Mr. Martin was a Shriner, and a member of Yaarab Shriners Temple in Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford with military honors and Masonic graveside service. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 27 from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
