Loy Edward Barrett, “Gran” or “Granddaddy” as he was affectionately called by so many, age 89 of Cleveland, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at his home in Cleveland, Georgia.
Loy Barrett was employed by Talon, the local textile plant for zippers, for more than 40 years and was a member of the White County Board Education for many years always wanting the best for the future generation of White County. He was considered a “jack of all trades” fixing anything from cars to technology, his expertise was used at Simco after retiring from Talon. Many locals would come visit him to seek advice on how to fix things or ask him for help. Loy Barrett was a life-long member of Loudsville United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee for many years and worked the sound board.
Loy Barrett was a life long resident of White County born on March 25th, 1930 in the Blue Creek area to the late Newt and Leila Powers Barrett. Waiting for Loy to come home is his wife of 63 years, Wilma Barrett, brothers Homer, John, and Clyde Barrett, as well as sisters, Bernice Barrett Reid and Ruth Barrett Davidson.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Mitchel and Linda Barrett; grandchildren, Michele and Neal Broadwell, Tara and Henry Powell; great granddaughters Nealeigh Broadwell, Abby Broxton, and Ada Powell all of Cleveland; sister-in-law Henrietta Herrin, Cornelia; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Mr. Loy Barrett leaves behind a large number of honorary grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, April 22, 2019 at Loudsville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Doug Gilreath, the Rev. John Mann and the Rev. Rich Griffith will officiate. Interment will follow at Loudsville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 PM Saturday and 12:00 – 1:30 PM Monday at the funeral home.
