Mr. Gary Lester Smith, age 70 of North Pond Street, Toccoa passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta.
A son of the late Floyd and Lexie Edney Smith, he was born in Rosman, North Carolina having lived most of his life in Stephens County, Georgia. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Toccoa Ford for a number of years and currently employed with Edwards Auto Sales in Walhalla, South Carolina. He attended Old Union Baptist Church and was a member of Masonic Lodge #309. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Austin Smith and by two brothers, Douglas Smith and Johnny Smith.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Kay Rider Smith; two daughters and son-in-law, Dena Smith of Seneca, South Carolina and Dawn and Stephen Savage of Toccoa; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and David Rochester of Walhalla, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 20, 2019, 11 O’clock a.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Brian Pulliam officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as honorary pallbearers, Mike Smith, Dave Smith, Jeffrey Rochester, Bobby Edwards, Danny Edwards, Stephen Savage, Jack Henry and Henry Rider.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service time.
Flowers are to be omitted. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605 in memory of Mr. Gary Lester Smith.
Masonic Lodge #309 will be in charge of the committal service.
