Eugene “Gene” Edward Unbehant, age 80, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019, following a sudden illness.
Mr. Unbehant was born on March 30, 1939, in Banks County, Georgia, to the late Larkin and Emma Della Pitts Unbehant. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Otis, Elmo, Everett, and Arthur Unbehant and sister, Christine Elrod. Mr. Unbehant was a Veteran of the United States Navy and of the Christian faith. Gene was employed as Service Manager with Stovall Ford for many years and a licensed real estate broker. He opened Gene’s Pawn Shop in 1990. Mr. Unbehant was a member of Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge #141, a Clarkesville Royal Arch Mason Chapter #67, and Life Member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Faye Dill Unbehant of Mt. Airy; son, Kevin Unbehant of Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Bryan Andrews of Mt. Airy; brother, Glenn Unbehant of Demorest; grandchildren: Sandy Unbehant, Kyle Unbehant, and Hillary Myers; and great-grandchildren: Heather Unbehant, Ian Unbehant, and Hannah Unbehant.
Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the VFW Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Umbehant officiating with military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, and Rabun County DAV Chapter #15.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, April 15, 2019, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
