Mr. Charles Donald Simmons, age 87, of Mize Road in Toccoa, Georgia passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at the home.
A son of the late Russell and Maude Crenshaw Simmons, he was born October 18, 1931 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived all of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. Mr. Simmons was a self employed welder, owning Donald Simmons Welding Service for over forty years. He was a member at Landmark Baptist Church. Also, he was an avid cattleman, member of the Georgia Cattleman’s Association, and member of VFW Post 4346 in Toccoa. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Pitts Simmons.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Bobby Hanley and Teresa and Bill Pritchett all of Toccoa, son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Simmons of Toccoa, eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, including special grandchildren and caregivers that Donald had lived with for the last ten years, Lori, Casadi, and Tucker Keener.
The Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 14th, 2:00 P.M., at the Hillcrest Chapel of The Acree-Davis Funeral Home with Reverend Jewell Gaines officiating.
The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers, Mike Cox, Ronald Green, Lane Goss, Doug Caudell, Wayne Clark, Chad Smith, and Daryl Freeman. Pallbearers, please assemble at the funeral Home by 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
The family will be at the home on Mize Road, Toccoa, and will receive friends Saturday, April 13th , at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8 p.m.
